2XKO Closed Beta launches tomorrow so will you be playing it?

Finally about to throw down?

After years of development and gradual content release, the 2XKO closed beta will finally launch tomorrow. According to Riot Games, it’ll remain open indefinitely, only closing when necessary for patch installations or server maintenance. So it looks like we have a new free-to-play tag fighter on our hands, and we can finally start talking about it.

However, with the oversaturation of new tag-based fighting games nowadays and more on the way, such as Invinicible VS and Marvel Token Fighters, do you plan to pick this one up and give it a try, or are you going to give it a miss?

Heading into tomorrow’s closed beta you have nine characters to choose from for your two vs. two matches, with Yasuo, Vi, Jinx, Ahri, Ekko, Blitzcrank, Darius, Braum, and Illaoi making up the starting roster with a 10th mystery fighter coming down the line during the closed beta period, before Riot Games plans to officially release the game from closed beta and update it over time.

That doesn’t feel like a lot of characters for a fighting game, and for me, the worry is that some characters are stronger than others, and each matchup becomes a mirror match, especially the higher you go up the competitive ladder. Though with Riot Games’ ability to patch and balance things regularly, I can see the meta switching back and forth over time, especially as we get new characters, which hopefully offer counterplay to pre-existing champions.

However, it’s also hard not to notice the deafening silence this game is creating in the FGC. I hardly see anyone talking about it, and other match reveals seem to have silenced this. I’m curious to know if you are excited about the game or plan to pick it up yourself. Let me know in the comments below what your thoughts are on what you have seen so far.

I feel like there are still many aspects of the game that need improvement, such as the poor monetization and the high costs of characters or skins, before I dust off the fight stick and enter a couple of grassroots tournaments. Fingers crossed for the best, though.
