The Fortress of Saditude quest walkthrough in Disney Dreamlight Valley

Everyone needs their alone time sometimes.

Now that we’ve helped Disney Dreamlight Valley’s villagers feel happier after bouts of extreme sadness, it’s time to talk to Sadness herself. At the moment, she needs some alone time, prompting your character to offer to build a pillow fort. Agreeing to this officially begins The Fortress of Saditude quest.

Starting the Fortress of Saditude quest

Starting The Fortress of Saditude quest requires completing Joy’s level four mission, Mood Swings, and reaching level four friendship with Sadness. You’ll also need to advance far enough into Disney Dreamlight Valley’s story to unlock characters such as Donald Duck, Scrooge McDuck, and Wall-E. Once you reach these requirements, talk to Sadness to start the quest.

After a short conversation with Sadness about building a pillow fort, you’ll be inspired to find suitable locations for it. You’ll need to take photos of spots next to your house, Scrooge McDuck’s shop, and near Merlin’s Dreamlight Library. The exact locations don’t matter as long as your three photos have these buildings within most of the frame.

Crafting Sadness’s Cozy Pillow Fort

Now that we’ve mapped out some potential locations for the pillow fort, it’s time to craft it. You’ll need the following materials to make it:

  • Blue Star Lily (8)
  • Blue Marsh Milkweed (8)
  • Aquamarine (3)
  • Blue Hydrangea (8)
  • Softwood (20)
  • Donald’s Fallen Feathers (10)

Most of the pillow fort comprises flowers found around Dreamlight Valley. In particular, you’ll need to head to Dazzle Beach, the Forest of Valor, and the Glade of Trust before foraging for them. Softwood is much easier to collect, as it spawns around most trees, while aquamarines are obtainable by mining Dazzle Beach’s rocks.

If you don’t find all eight of each, collect every flower in each area before leaving, doing other side tasks, and returning before repeating the process. You may also have to temporarily remove some paths, decorations, and structures to make room for more flower spawns.

Finding Donald’s Fallen Feathers

Another tricky component to this is Donald’s Fallen Feathers. There are 10 you have to find, which can only spawn around the Plaza, Peaceful Meadow, and Dazzle Beach biomes. They appear on the floor as white feathers.

The spawn locations for Donald’s Fallen Feathers are completely random and look different for every player. There’s no way to know exactly where they’ll appear for you, so if you’re struggling to find them all, here are some tips for spotting Donald’s fallen feathers:

  1. Go into Furniture Mode to get a birds-eye view of the map. A different perspective can help you spot feathers that’d normally be difficult to find.
  2. Focus on the Plaza, Peaceful Meadow, and Dazzle Beach, as these are the only three biomes they can appear in.
  3. Move buildings and decorations around in case feathers are hiding in between their gaps or at awkward angles.
  4. Look carefully around pathways, Dazzle Beach’s sand, and around light-colored decorations in case they blend into the environment.
  5. Remember where you found previous ones. If you only saw one feather in the Plaza, odds are, there are probably a couple more there.

Once you have every item, head to any crafting station to make the Cozy Pillow Fort before placing it anywhere in your village.

Gather extra pillows for Sadness

After placing the pillow fort, Sadness will mention how Riley occasionally places extra pillows around for more comfort. You offer to ask other villagers for more pillows, prompting you to visit Wall-E, Goofy, and Scrooge’s Shop to obtain Scrooge’s pillow, Wall-E’s pillow, and Goofy’s pillow.

Our first stop is Scrooge’s store. Talk to Scrooge and ask him to check his list of furniture. You’ll find a button to filter by Sadness’s quest, letting you purchase the pillow for 480 Star Coins.

Next, we need to talk to Wall-E. You’ll quickly discover that Wall-E threw the pillow away, so you’ll need to break a cube of compressed trash within his house. This block can be broken using your Royal Pickaxe.

You need to swing at the block two times to free the pillow and add it to your inventory. However, you won’t find this option until after you talk to Goofy, so go have a chat with him, then head back to grab the item you need.

Lastly, we need a pillow from Goofy. He’ll reveal that he accidentally dropped his pillow in Dazzle Beach’s water, requiring you to retrieve it. Focus on gold fishing spots in Dazzle Beach’s waters to find it.

There’s a chance you won’t have any gold ripple spots when working on this part of the quest, as I didn’t. If this happens, you’ll need to keep fishing away all other spots that appear around Dazzle Beach until one finally spawns. It took me quite a while to get one, so just keep at it and don’t give up.

With all three pillows on hand, head back to Sadness’s Cozy Pillow Fort and place them inside. Sadness will give you one of her pillows to place next to the fort, which you can do through your Furniture Menu.

Add furniture near the Cozy Pillow Fort

Next, you need to arrange five additional furniture items that are blue, purple, white, or black around the fort. The Furniture Menu will automatically filter these for you through Sadness’s quest category, but you can also manually filter them if needed.

Any items that fall under this category work, so pick whichever ones you like. For reference, though, I used a Good Memories Jukebox, Sense of Self Lamp, Agrabah Palace Poof, Purple Chesterfield Bench, and Melted Candles.

Placing each item down, taking a quick picture with Sadness and Joy, and having one final conversation with Sadness will wrap up the Fortress of Saditude quest. You’ll now have direct access to Joy’s next friendship mission once you reach level seven with her and meet her quest’s prerequisites, so get to work on Dream a Little Dream next.
