Breaking down Dune Awakening’s private servers: How they work, settings, and more

A customized journey.

While Dune Awakening will have official servers where players will be expanding their bases, you can also switch to a private server if that’s something you’re looking at.

Private servers were always expected to be available in the MMO, but Funcom had originally considered them post-launch additions. They’ll be available at launch, though, and we’ll make sure you know all the necessary information.

How will Dune Awakening private servers work

A private server will have some similarities with a Public Server in Dune Awakening. For starters, a private variant will have a full Hagga Basin map, and you can do everything possible on the official ones. However, all private servers will belong to a separate world with no public variants (you will get to choose the world you want).

All private servers will have access to every multiplayer feature available in the game. This includes the Social Hub and the Deep Forest, where you can meet other players who have their private servers. The Deep Forest and the Social Hub will be controlled by the server hosting provider, not individual players.

All private server settings in Dune Awakening

One of a private server’s biggest benefits is its set of settings. While all the aspects aren’t under your control, a few extra tweaks exist.

  • You can disable Security Zones, allowing you to PvP wherever you want. Official servers will have specific spots where you can engage with PvP action.
  • Taxation can be disabled on private servers.
  • Sandstorms can be disabled on private servers.

Additionally, you can name your server and set a password to invite and add other players. This also allows you to visit the private servers owned by other players. If you have the password, you can join the new server, take your full inventory, and even claim land.

How to own a private server in Dune Awakening

There will be three different server hosting providers from which you can choose.

  • Nitrado
  • GPORTAL
  • xREALM

You’ll have to discuss any technical support directly with the providers.

Are private servers worth it in Dune Awakening

If you’re like me, who doesn’t have a friend group playing, it’s better to enjoy the official servers. PvP is highly optional, so there’s little risk of other players sabotaging your in-game progression. Renting a private server also costs a noticeable amount, so the official options seem like the best choice for most players.
