Sony’s promise of a year’s free identity theft protection has been fulfilled, with PSN users having their asses covered from today onwards. At least in the United States. Sony is still working out the details for international customers.
“AllClear ID PLUS is a premium identity protection service that uses advanced technology to deliver alerts to help keep you safe,” said the company. “The service also provides identity theft insurance coverage and hands-on help from expert fraud investigators. Sony has arranged, at no charge to eligible PlayStation®Network and Qriocity account holders, for twelve months of this service to be provided by Debix to those who choose to enroll.”

Of all Sony’s attempts to make up for the PSN security breach, I think this is the most appreciated step, the one that goes “beyond the call of duty,” as it were. Sony could have gotten away without going this far, I reckon, but the fact it did was a pretty neat move. What do you reckon?
