PSOne games sell badly on Xperia Play, Sony doesn’t care

Sony’s Xperia Play phone boasted PSOne games as a major selling point, but customers don’t seem to agree. Less than 1,000 downloads have been registered for the current library of five PSOne titles, excluding Crash Bandicoot, which is pre-installed on phones.

Destruction Derby and Jumping Flash are among the poorest performers, only managing to rake 50 to 100 downloads. Not great news at all, but Sony has “no concern” over the failure.

“There’s only a few, at the minute, PlayStation One titles there,” said Sony Ericsson’s Dominic Neil-Dwyer, “and there’s the whole PlayStation as a content provider exclusive to the device, the story about that, that will emerge and people will see.”

Let’s not count Sony out just yet! The Xperia Play has not yet gotten Kiss Pinball on its marketplace. That, right there, is the difference maker.
