Surviving 99 Nights in the Forest might sound like a lot at first but once you start rescuing children and building beds the days flow by. I’ll walk you through the early and mid-to-late game so you can set up for successful runs. Here’s my full 99 Nights in the Forest walkthrough guide.

99 Nights in the Forest Beginner’s Guide

  • 99 nights in the forest deer monster tips
  • 99 nights in the forest how to rescue kids
  • 99 nights in the forest exploration tips
  • 99 nights in the forest cultist attack guide

First off, let’s start with a bunch of useful advice for early to mid-game in 99 Nights in the Forest:

  • Fire & Fuel: The circle around your campfire blocks the Deer monster from entering and is your camp so keep the fire up. Placing Wood, Coal, Gasoline, and other Fuel you’ll find upgrades the campfire to higher levels (Use Sack to carry more). This expands the map you can explore since otherwise there’s fog that you can’t go through. Upgrading your fire is the key to reaching locations where there are kids to rescue and better chests/loot to find.
  • Deer Monster: The Deer appears at night and is invulnerable to all attacks so don’t try to fight it. To defend against The Deer use a Flashlight and shine it at it which you can find by exploring nearby houses, camps, or shacks. It will chase after players outside of the campfire range but you can easily outrun him when sprinting. If he does reach you he’ll do an attack that takes about a third of your HP so avoid him when you can but don’t be afraid to pick up an extra resource or two at night.
  • Crafting & Cultist Attacks: The craft bench allows you to craft a variety of useful things. The three main resources are Wood, Bolts/Scrap, and later Cultist Amulets. You get wood by placing logs into the scrap processor to the left. Bolts/Scrap are similarly made by placing any metal object with a bolt icon you find. Lastly, every 3 days or so you’ll get attacked by Cultists with melee and ranged weapons. I recommend focusing on Crossbow Cultists first then the melee ones and placing bear traps from Crafting Bench 2 and luring melee ones into it. Defeating them drops an Amulet you can place in the scrapper to gain it as a resource for higher level recipes. Whenever you have enough resources and your fire isn’t about to go out it’s a good idea to upgrade to a better crafting table.
  • Rescuing Kids: Rescuing a kid and bringing it back to camp increases the number of days that pass each night. You can check the location of a kid by interacting with the bulletin board and then follow that location (Recommended by day or near the end of night). The locations point to Animal caves where you have to kill some wolves or bears to get a key and go down to pick up the kid with your sack. Bring the kid back to your campfire, drop him from the sack and you’ll get the day-pass buff. If you cannot reach the animal cave/kid, you have to upgrade your campfire with more Fuel to reveal that part of the map.
  • Kids, Beds & Days: The main strategy for speeding up the game is rescuing kids and building Beds. Each Kid and each Bed increases the number of days that pass by. You can find beds at each crafting upgrade level above first.
  • Exploring: This is crucial to all levels of the game and you should explore around the level each day or just before morning and look for camps, sheds, houses, ruins, farms, etc. They’ll contain useful resources like Fuel, Wood, Scrap, Guns, Ammo, Seeds, better tools, etc. You can explore at night just bring a Flashlight to stun the Deer or climb atop a tower if you find any.

99 Nights in the Forest Mid to Late Game Tips

Here are some more advanced tips for mid to late game:

  • Walling Off Your Base: You can wall off your base and prevent The Deer and the Cultists from approaching by either taking the Saplings you find and planting them around your campfire or building Shelves around your campfire. Shelves are 2 Scrap each from the second Crafting Bench level and Saplings will take a night or two to grow but they’re easier to get. This essentially blocks off enemies for the full 99 Nights.
  • Pelt Trader: The Pelt Trader will appear every few days and he’ll want a Rabbit Foot, Wolf Pelt, Alpha Wolf Belt, Bear Pelt, etc. Give him what he asks for by killing Rabbits, Wolves, Bears, etc., and you’ll get powerful upgrades like a better Sack or Axe, Flashlight, Armor, Guns and Rifles, etc. As the days go by and you give him Rabbit Feet and Wolf Pelts he’ll start asking for Alpha Wolf Pelts and Bear Pelts. Alpha Wolves are in front of the second kid’s cave and farther off from the campfire as well as bears so increase your campfire level to reach them. You can keep Pelts in your base and in rain for when you need them.
  • Fuel & Keeping Wood Dry: Rain will not only reduce your campfire level but it will also make any stray logs wet disabling you from using them as Fuel. I recommend you stock up on logs so that you don’t have to rush deciding whether to use them for Fuel or Crafting and the best way to do that is with Wood Rain Storage from Bench Lvl 2. You’ll also be able to find Coal, Gasoline, and Oil later on to reach the final campfire level ASAP so that you can explore further for better loot. I recommend keeping the fire out during the day when it’s raining and then when it’s done using all the Fuel you have to rush to the next level. Rain cannot reduce your current Campfire Upgrade Level.
  • Seeds: Pick up the flowers/seeds around the map once you expand and look for the Fairy behind the Kid bulletboard to the right of it slightly. You can use Seeds to purchase more berry spawns from the Fairy or more flower/seed spawns. The berry purchase is better since you’ll have more ways to restore hunger as you explore but you should balance it on what Seed boxes you find as well. If you find a lot of Flower seed boxes then just focus on Berries from the Fairy.

Here everything that’s incredibly useful to craft in 99 Nights in the Forest:

  • Map & Farm Plot (Level 1 Bench): These are your first level upgrades that are useful for the entire game. The Map is generally useful for seeing what you missed and the Farm Plot will keep you fed especially if you choose the barricade/walling off campfire strategy we mentioned above.
  • Beds (All Levels): Building a bed on every bench level is a great idea to speed up finishing the game.
  • Shelf/Wood Rain Storage (Level 2 Bench): The Wood Rain Storage is for keeping Wood dry and the Shelf is better for the barricade/wall off campfire strategy we mentioned above.
  • Biofuel Processor & Lightning Rod (Level 3): The Biofuel Processor is amazing for rushing to further reaches of the map since you’ll have better fuel for upgrading the Campfire. There’ll be plenty of food you can use along with Wood anyway. Further reaches of the map mean better loot and more kids to rescue to speed up the game. The Lightning Rod is for general safety when spending time at the campfire during thunderstorms.
  • Ammo Crate & Teleporter (Level 4): Oil Drill is good but if you have Biofuel Processor you’re doing okay on Fuel. Instead, the Ammo Crate allows you to fire your gun and rifle more often which is quite powerful especially when someone is on low HP and melee would mean death. Meanwhile, the Teleporter is for when you reach high campfire levels and reveal most of the map. It helps you move quicker between far-off points of the map later but you need 2 people for it to work.

Best Classes in 99 Nights in the Forest

Our 99 Nights in the Forest Class tier list goes in-depth on the best classes in the game. If you just want a quick rundown the best classes are Lumberjack for overall usefulness, Ranger for speed running, and Cook for some team Hunger restoration. While the Assassin is technically the best, that class is just too expensive to be realistically available without massive grinding or Robux.

The other upgrades are also great and each one helps you in its own way but these ones listed above are the most powerful. That’s it for our 99 Nights in the Forest walkthrough guide.
