5th Cell working on an original Xbox LIVE Arcade game

While Scribblenauts may have left somewhat of a sour taste in my mouth, it was fun while it lasted, and you have to give credit where credit is due. Developer 5th Cell set out to create an ambitious, uniquely creative product, and although I feel it didn’t meet many of our high expectations, that’s more than can be said of many studios.

We had previously heard from 5th Cell’s Jeremiah Slaczka about how the team was going to temporarily give development on the DS a break to see what kind of console game they could come up with. Further clarification was given to Gamasutra — he says the studio is working on an original XBLA title.

Noting how the game is “far away” and not nearly in announcement-ready condition, Slaczka says “it’s going to be pretty big.” It makes perfect sense the more I think about it. Jumping from DS to consoles would have been a huge step; making the game downloadable seems like the ideal middle ground.
