3D Realms CEO not a big fan of Max Payne movie

Recommended Videos

Watching the Max Payne movie is a lot like pulling teeth for anyone familiar with the game. Today, 3D Realms CEO Scott Miller joined the chorus critical of the movie. Miller is a bit more of a prolific voice in the matter, considering he produced the Max Payne games. In an interview with Edge, Miller said that were “several fundamental story flaws” that had him “shaking [his] head in bewilderment.”

Miller had more to say about the manner in which the writers of the movie steered away from the videogame’s storyline, namely Payne’s motivation for killing people. The quote below contains spoilers:

A big problem with the film is that we do not really know what is driving Max until we see the flashback scene showing him coming home and finding his family murdered. In the game, we put this scene right at the front of the story for a reason!

Miller went on to call the placement of the scene a “narrative blunder.” He didn’t go so far as to say that the narrative was as silly as developing a Duke Nukem sequel for over a decade, but I went ahead and just did that for him.
