38 Studios assets to be auctioned this November

Kingdoms of Amalur rights, proprietary technology for sale

The cautionary tale that is 38 Studios is nearing its conclusion. The company shuttered its doors last year, laid off its entire staff, and defaulted on its Rhode Island taxpayer-backed loan en route to bankruptcy. Now the Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning developer’s remaining assets are scheduled to be sold at auction this November.

The assets available include the IP rights to the Amalur universe, including sequel and merchandise rights to Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, and the unreleased MMORPG Project Copernicus. Also for sale are the rights to 38 Studios subsidiary Big Huge Games’ full library, including Rise of Nations. The group’s proprietary technology is up for grabs as well.

Heritage Global Partners will open the bidding on November 14, which is scheduled to close the next day.
