Outside of Mike Tyson’s Punch Out!! (which I’m playing right now, between typing words), the videogame boxing-genre has been completely dominated by EA Sports, and their extremely solid Fight Night series. And besides Wii Sports‘ “boxing” (and to a lesser extent, the Wii title Victorious Boxers: Revolution), there’s been no real challenge that’s been brought to the market.
That may be changing soon, as word has it that EA Sports “rival” 2K Sports may be bringing a new boxing title to the market. In a recent article found on Ohio-based news Web Site Vindy.com, 25-year-old boxing middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik will be one of the fighters in the new game.
While we don’t have any more information on this yet-to-be-announced title, it’ll be interesting to see what 2K Sports’ take on videogame boxing is going to look like. It’s going to take a lot to topple Fight Night‘s subtle mix of straight-up fighter and sports simulation. But as someone who likes to pummel faces in videogames because he couldn’t take Hannah Montana in a bar brawl, I’m certainly looking forward to see what they come up with.
[Thanks, Justin!]
