When 2K Sports announced Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Evan Longoria as the cover athlete for Major League Baseball 2K10, they offered up six different cover designs and let you vote on them. The voting ended a week ago, and now we have the result, which garnered 35% of the vote: it’s Longoria in the midst of an off-balance throw, and I think it’s a great choice. (Check out the full-size box art in the gallery below.)

We’ve also got the first MLB 2K10-related video content for you. It’s a quick minute-long vignette in which some of the American League’s best young pitchers — the Oakland Athletics’ closer, Andrew Bailey, the 2009 AL Rookie of the Year; Félix Hernández of the Seattle Mariners; and the Detroit Tigers’ Justin Verlander — talk about how difficult it is to get Longoria out (and the pitches they use to try and do it).

Major League Baseball 2K10
will be out on March 2, 2010, for PS3, 360, Wii, PS2, PSP, and PC. But considering how glitchy MLB 2K9 was, I’d advise baseball fans to keep their eyes on Sony’s MLB 10 The Show. I’ll have a preview of The Show on Thursday, when that game’s cover athlete will be announced.
