In addition to MS points, Mass Effect DLC to cost a couple hours of gameplay

Even though Mass Effect doesn’t actually contain any full-on nudity or graphic displays of sexuality, we still like it. So when the “Bring Down the Sky” downloadable content pack was announced, we were thrilled to continue our adventures. Set for release on March 10, the pack will contain an additional 90 minutes worth of gameplay. Cool beans.

For those who have already played through Mass Effect, though, now might be a good time to start playing again. BioWare’s Ray Muzyka has confirmed to MTV’s Steven Totilo that players wlil have to [spoiler alert!?] play past the game’s opening Eden Prime and Citadel sequences to access the new DLC. Once you unlock the game’s galactic map, the new missions will appear. In short, you’re going to have to sit through a few hours worth of gameplay before you can get to the new, juicy stuff.

So is this a huge deal? Considering the scope and style of Mass Effect, it’s hard to imagine them doing this any other way. Bethesda Softworks had a different approach with their Oblivion DLC (once downloaded, it was usually simply a matter of “finding” that new content in the game’s world), but that game works a bit differently with its open world.

Is something like this going to turn you off from picking up the DLC? Or will you veteran Mass Effect players happily work through the game’s opening hours to check out your new content?
