Bethesda updates Skyrim to version 1.9 Beta on Steam

Adds in new ‘Legendary’ difficulty

Good news, weary travelers of Skyrim! Bethesda has just updated the PC version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim to 1.9 beta for you to test out, if you so wish. It looks like console adventurers will have to wait a little while longer, but the company is hoping to push out the patch later this month.

Version 1.9 beta carries a huge number of fixes, from the ability to drop certain quest items after quest completion to more specific issues revolving around certain quests. The biggest addition from this update is the new “Legendary” difficulty setting. Players with skills of level 100 now have the option to make that skill Legendary by resetting its level back to 15 and removing the associated perks. This will allow the player to level up the skill and regain their perks again.

Clearly, Bethesda has taken a few tips from the Call of Duty series. From a design perspective, I can understand why adding such a feature to your enormous open-world RPG would make sense: the die-hard fans can continue to enjoy the game and feel as though that they continuing to get stronger through the use of those skills. Personally, I see it as a waste of the time and effort that I had put in to attain those skills in the first place. I’ll be downloading this update but leaving the Legendary setting for those made of sterner stuff, and with far more free time on their hands.
