Pac-Man confirmed for Super Smash Bros.
by Kyle MacGregor

During a roundtable presentation at E3 this evening, Super Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai revealed Pac-Man as a playable character in Nintendo's upcoming Wii U and 3DS fighter. The Bandai Namco mascot will be receiving his own stage as a part of the deal.

Sakurai asserts Pac-Man was planned for the title from the start of development, which seems to make sense since Bandai Namco is handling the project alongside Sora Ltd.

Pac-Man features "some interesting abilities like throwing fruit and eating power pellets," confirmed over Twitter. To see what the rotund yellow fellow looks like in action, check out his debut footage above and the screenshots in the gallery below.

[Update: Mr. Game & Watch will be returning as a playable character in the upcoming fighter.]

Nintendo Treehouse's Bill Trinen delivered more details on  their newly announced NFC figures, amiibo, directly following their E3 streaming event. He says that a variety of games will support these figures later this year, including Super Smash Bros., Mario Party 10, Captain Toad Treasure Tracker, Yoshi's Wooly World, and Mario Kart 8. Nintendo says that amiibo will bring new types of fun and new ways to interact with your favorite characters.

Super Smash Bros. on Wii U will be the first game to work with the first run of amiibo characters. Remember that opening video of Super Smash Bros. Meele? Remember how the figures came to life in that opening movie? That will be a reality later this year.

Nintendo reveals NFC toys like Skylanders called Amiibo photo
Nintendo reveals NFC toys like Skylanders called Amiibo
by Kyle MacGregor

Nintendo unveiled its new line of Skylanders-like NFC toys, amiibo, during its E3 digital event today. Confirmed titles include Smash Bros and Skylanders, and these will work "only for Nintendo systems."

It sounds like these figures will introduce RPG mechanics in Super Smash Bros., allowing you to train and customize your characters. With enough effort, you might even be able to finally best your unbeatable friends with the help of amiibo.

Each figure has a special chip inside, and it will be recognized on any Wii U using the built-in NFC technology. More details on that and other games that will make use of the technology, like Mario Kart 8, soon.

A peripheral is coming next year that allows amiibo to be used on Nintendo 3DS.

Super Smash Bros. on Wii U will be playable with GameCube controller
by Brett Makedonski

[Update: Nintendo isn't sharing any other details about the adapter other than what we know below. Hopefully more details are shared at E3.]

When Super Smash Bros. on Wii U releases later this year, it'll include optional support for one of the most beloved controllers of all time. That's right, Nintendo's found a way to bring the GameCube controller to the party.

Nintendo of America tweeted the news, along with a picture of the adapter that'll make it all possible. There's no news yet as to how much it'll cost or when it'll release. We've reached out to Nintendo for more details.

A hot topic of discussion around our office is whether or not this adapter will include Wavebird support. Apparently we all like to do our smashin' from the kitchen.
