The Mighty No. 9 playable beta launches today photo
The Mighty No. 9 playable beta launches today
by Chris Carter

If you're interested in Mighty No. 9 and pledged at least $80 to its Kickstarter, check your email today -- you may have gotten a beta key. Redeemable on Steam, this key will allow you to play a single level from an early version of the game, which will show off Mighty No. 9's core mechanics.

Feedback will help shape the final release, and another "level or two" may come to the beta, according to producer Inafune. Stay tuned for later today -- I'll have a full write-up of the beta.

Review: Mighty Gunvolt photo
Review: Mighty Gunvolt

Inti Creates is just full of surprises. First, we had the announcement of a brand new Mega Man-like project that absolutely exploded on Kickstarter. Then we got word that Azure Striker Gunvolt was in production, and was an attempt to recreate the feel of the Mega Man X and ZX titles.

Now, we have a full-on 8-bit loveletter to the NES area in the form of Mighty Gunvolt, which is a free add-on for Striker. Provided that Mighty No. 9 delivers, this is going to be one hell of a retro trifecta.

If Capcom ever decides that they're done with Mega Man, someone will carry the torch. Whether it's tireless fan creators or the father of the Blue Bomber himself, the Mega Man community is one of the most passionate collectives I've ever seen in the gaming industry.

Not content with rebooting his creation entirely with Mighty No. 9, Inti Creates has crafted a love-letter to Mega Man ZX, and the 8-bit era. If Azure Striker Gunvolt is anything to go by, I hope that passion lives on for quite a while.

Mighty Gunvolt is a free download if you buy Azure Striker photo
Mighty Gunvolt is a free download if you buy Azure Striker
by Chris Carter

Developer Inti Creates has just sent over some great news -- anyone who downloads Azure Striker Gunvolt for the first three months of its eShop release will get Mighty Gunvolt for free. The latter is an 8-bit style retro platformer that stars characters from Azure Striker, Mighty No. 9, and GalGun, and is a completely separate project that takes place over five levels.

After downloading Striker you'll receive a message with a download code for Mighty -- that's all you have to do. Stay tuned for full coverage of both Azure Striker Gunvolt and Mighty Gunvolt next week.

The Mega Man 2.5D project moves into beta 3.0, still has co-op
by Chris Carter

The newest iteration of developer Peter Sjostrand's Mega Man 2.5D is out, and you can download it off the official site.

The 3.0 beta boasts new co-op and single-player stages, including Splash Woman and Quick Man. Overall it's looking pretty great, even if you completely negate the 2.5D art style -- playing a classic looking Mega Man game in full co-op is a dream.

Mega Man 5 hits Wii U, Mega Man StreetPass puzzle hits 3DS
