Coffee Stain Studios talks Goat Simulator's origin, release date

Sanctum developer Coffee Stain Studios has written about the birth of Goat Simulator, a hilarious thing that at one point wasn't going to be a real game until enough of us demanded it. We needed this. "After a day or two we ...

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2's development was troubled

Well, this is awkward. Not only did Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 review fairly poorly across the board, now we're seeing former developers step into the light and call out Spanish development studio, MercurySteam, for poor ...

Peter Molyneux: Fable III was a trainwreck

Peter Molyneux has a well-deserved reputation within the gaming industry of being an overly excitable and dramatic guy. It seems that those characteristics follow him in defeat, too. Speaking to Develop at Casual Connect...

Fans are bringing an unused Double Fine pitch to life

While it may not have been my favorite concept for a game out of Amnesia Fortnight 2014, the pitch itself for Bad Golf 2 was among the best. It was literally just Double Fine's Patrick Hackett chanting "Bad Golf 2!" four time...

Free for all: The Last of Us documentary now on YouTube

I felt bad about talking up Grounded: The Making of The Last of Us upon its free release in the US since many of you weren't able to access the documentary. Well, now you can! Naughty Dog and Area 5 have uploaded the movie in its entirety to YouTube. Again, you should watch it -- after you've beaten the game. Great insight into large-scale game development.

Download GameMaker Studio Standard Edition for free photo
Download GameMaker Studio Standard Edition for free
by Jordan Devore

Normally, the Standard Edition for GameMaker Studio costs $49.99 but for a limited time, it's available for free. After downloading, just register an email address and you'll be sent a key.

Also through March 2, 2014, the upgrade to GameMaker Professional Edition is $35, down from the usual going rate of $99.99 -- "simply enter your Standard license key when checking out," according to YoYoGames. Of course, it's the modules that start to add up, but this free version is still one of those offers where there's really no reason not to grab it while you can.

When I think of GameMaker success stories, I think of Derek Yu (Spelunky), Tom Francis (Gunpoint), and Jonatan Söderström (Hotline Miami) -- these three rocked it. In time, you can too.
