Movie's out. I've got the general consensus of the theatre's reactions.
I'm not gonna give my full opinion yet - I'll just report what the general theatre thought: 2 thumbs down. The movie did a pretty good job at explaining things and leaving them less vague than the games, but there were still plenty of people coming out of the theatre confused.
Did it fuck up the plot? Nah - I've only seen my friends play the first three games but I know enough about it. The movie added to some parts, sometimes alot, but it didn't murder the story.
However... there WERE hoky scenes. Some bad dialogue, unfortunately a few monsters that could be more hilarious than terrifying - but don't worry - it was nowhere near a total fuckup like Wes Anderson's films. Some scenes were 100% badass - so even if you have gripes you'll still highly enjoy some parts. Mainly the beginning 30 minutes had some sweet stuff, then some more cool pyramid head stuff, then some cool stuff to finish the movie with plenty of blood.
But yes, some parts were lame, some really lame, so gamers probably don't have their first movie claim to fame, but this movie definitely had some quality to it. If you are a huge Silent Hill fanboy I doubt you will have any issues with it whatsoever. It felt very video gamish in its scenes which helped and hurt it in different areas.
Last comment for now though - download this damn movie - fuck the theatres. No matter how good or how bad the movie was, there were PLENTY of people that had no clue the movie was based off a video game, and was overly obnoxious the entire time. It was downright annoying. Bottom line - some of it sucked, some of it was awesome. Don't see it unless you really wanted to see it, or the advertisements really interested you.
Average nongamer review is probably a 5/10.
