Evil Within CENSORED in Japan, Gore Mode DLC unlocks Western version

ZeniMax sues Oculus VR for misappropriating trade secrets
by Jordan Devore

The ZeniMax vs. Oculus VR situation has escalated following comments from both sides about how intellectual property and key technology driving the Oculus Rift virtual-reality headset may or may not have been worked on while John Carmack was still at ZeniMax-owned id Software prior to his departure to work at Oculus full time as chief technology officer.

Today, ZeniMax and id filed a suit against Oculus VR and founder Palmer Luckey for "illegally misappropriating ZeniMax trade secrets relating to virtual reality technology, and infringing ZeniMax copyrights and trademarks. ZeniMax is also asserting claims for breach of contract, unjust enrichment, and unfair competition against the defendants."

Had a feeling this was about to get messy after the recent back-and-forth. According to ZeniMax, "All efforts by ZeniMax to resolve this matter amicably have been unsuccessful." Oculus VR hasn't responded yet, but I'm expecting more comments in line with its prior statements.

Call of Duty: Advanced Manfare, Halo with Boobs?, and a Lot of Beverages - Tuesday Newsday photo
Call of Duty: Advanced Manfare, Halo with Boobs?, and a Lot of Beverages - Tuesday Newsday
by Bill Zoeker

Lots of things happened in the game-o-sphere this week. Kevin Spacey scored the manliest name for his character in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. We found out the Halo TV series may be produced in conjunction with Showtime, so there has to be boobs in it, right? Sunset Overdrive launched a fake beverage campaign, while Mountain Dew decided to bottle Baja Blast for some reason. We've also had a lot of rumblings out of the world of the Oculus Rift, and seen a whole new side of Disney Infinity.

The Elder Scrolls Online hits PC/Mac first in April photo
The Elder Scrolls Online hits PC/Mac first in April
by Jordan Devore

ZeniMax Online Studios has come out with a suitably memorable release date for The Elder Scrolls Online: April 4, 2014 (aka 4.4.14). That's when the massively multiplayer online role-playing game will arrive on PC and Mac -- hopefully without too many launch-window issues. The Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions are coming a bit later in June.

Glad to have this news out of the way, but it's the new trailer I'm more interested in. It features some PvP, which basically amounts to crowds of people wailing on one another and some occasional structural damage. A faction-based approach worked quite well in Guild Wars 2, and I'm keen to experience a similar system in TES Online.
