This guy beats Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 in roughly three minutes photo
This guy beats Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 in roughly three minutes
by Chris Carter

YouTuber and speedrunner GeorgeThePlushie has set a new record for Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 -- an any percent speedrun of three minutes and 26 seconds. How does he do it? By navigating the menus faster than most humans can even comprehend, and completing the bare minimum of objectives that are required for finishing the game.

As someone who has completed Tony Hawk 2 in roughly 15 minutes, this looks legitimate. Although the whole video is 5:26, the gametime is 2:50, and the total time is 3:26.

I must admit, I have a soft spot for non-TAS videos, and I could watch this over and over. The fact that he completes this run within the confines of the actual game is extremely impressive.

Hey, let's watch someone clear Metroid Prime in 55 minutes

Mmm, Metroid Prime. One of my all-time favorites, and yet it's been far too long since I've last played it. For that matter, I don't know that I've ever watched a speedrun of the game in its entirety. This 55:53 single-segme...

Beating Spelunky in under two minutes

One minute and fifty five seconds -- that's the new world-record any% time for Spelunky set by Pibonacci. It hurts my brain thinking about how many runs must have happened before the right conditions presented themselves for this to unfold. To think, I was happy to clear Olmec in under eight minutes for the "Speedlunky" achievement.

This Fallout 3 speedrun sets a new world record

Super Mario World's too good to not watch three people play simultaneously

This video may be just more than 50 minutes long, but I managed to have quite a few nostalgic flashbacks to my youth in that short time. I played the hell out of it as a kid. And that was very correct of me, because after al...

It's possible to beat Dark Souls II in 20 minutes photo
It's possible to beat Dark Souls II in 20 minutes
by Jordan Devore

I haven't been keeping up with Dark Souls II speedruns. I should be. We got a tip in this weekend about Marksel's 21:25 world-record any% run, which has since been topped by Distortion2's 20:14 run, included above. Seems they've got a bit of a friendly rivalry going on right now.

How are these times feasible? Glitches. Bypassing the Shrine of Winter. Running above and below the environment. Binoculars, which inadvertently allow for absurd movement speeds.

I realize that any% runs aren't as interesting to some of you who prefer to see most if not all of a game's content bested, not skipped, and I tend to agree. All the same, watching people obliterate a game I've poured an ungodly amount of hours into is captivating and oddly satisfying.

[Thanks, Steven]

This three-minute Super Mario Bros. 3 speedrun is impressive
