Do want! Homebrew Portal gameplay on the DS

There are many things that make me proud to be a gamer, and one of them is the homebrew/fangame community. To me, there's almost nothing better than a group of passionate fans getting together and creating something ...

These 8-bit movie posters are gold

I love a good minimalist take on a piece of modern pop culture, even more so when the result taps into good ol' 8-bit gaming nostalgia. To that end, graphic designer Eric Palmer has whipped up a set of NES-style movie poster ...

Scope this Halo pixel demake from Mojang's art director

Over a year ago, a pixel artist by the name of junkboy whipped up a whole bunch of demakes of popular game properties, turning Killzone into Contra, Brütal Legend into a LucasArts point-and-click, and more. I don't know ...

Second Super Smash Land demo doubles demake's roster photo
Second Super Smash Land demo doubles demake's roster
by Jordan Devore

Dan Fornace's Game Boy-style Super Smash Bros. demake has gotten another playable demo. This second installment of Super Smash Land, as it's been so appropriately titled, adds Link and Pikachu to the roster and new stages.

That makes four characters in total, since Mario and Kirby were already in the first demo. It may not seem like much, but there's a surprisingly amount of detail and thought put into this free game. I could picture Super Smash Land as a real cartridge game had the original Game Boy not predated the Nintendo 64.

Head on over to Piki Geek to grab the PC demo.

Link debuts in new trailer for Super Smash Land photo
Link debuts in new trailer for Super Smash Land
by Jordan Devore

The previously covered (and totally rad) Super Smash Land has gotten a second trailer. The focus this time is on none other than Link, who was confirmed for this Super Smash Bros. demake a while back. Pikachu also makes a quick cameo.

The folks at Piki Geek are suggesting there will be a second demo for Super Smash Land next month, if all goes well. Let's hope so, because the first demo was excellent, if limited in terms of options. Go play it, if you haven't yet. There are quite a few questionable demakes; this isn't one of them.

Fallout turns JRPG in new official demake

I've always wondered what Fallout would be like in the hands of a Japanese studio, and I'm surely not alone in pondering such a concept. This official demake is a glimpse into what that could be like -- just on a much smaller...

More demakes than you can shake a pixelated stick at

Demakes are just plain fun. I'm sorry, but reimagining a game for the past can be some of the most clever stuff you'll ever see. For example, take junkboy's work over at Pixelation. He shares an impressive amount of dema...

Master Chief joins the Atari age in Halo 2600

As I've probably said before, demakes are a pretty cool thing. The idea of playing Halo on an Atari 2600 won't cause anybody to cancel their pre-order of Reach but it might give you a few minutes of amusement. Halo ...
