Wakfu releases today accompanied by a new trailer

The grid-based tactical MMO Wakfu is officially released for PC today! I was pretty pleased when I tried out the beta stage of the game and I am certainly looking forward to its future endeavors. From the community feed...

If you don't know what Wakfu is yet, I'll just nonchalantly point you over to my preview of the game here. If you don't know what a Sram is, I'd recommend watching the exclusive video above to find out, but essentially, it is one of the character classes that may or may not be considered "overpowered" by the forums. I never played as the Sram myself, but I sure did group with some who, well, dished out some serious damage.

The game is releasing tomorrow and I can only hope some of the issues I had during the beta are fixed, especially the item-duping exploit and the random french words left untranslated. I'll definitely continue to check the game out as it moves forward.

I also had a chance to interview Azael, the lead game designer over at Ankama, who was more than happy to bestow upon me his ultimate wisdom of the game.

Impressions: Wakfu open beta with exclusive video! photo
Impressions: Wakfu open beta with exclusive video!
by Patrick Hancock

I'm not even sure where to start with Wakfu. It's an incredibly complex MMO unlike any that I've played before. It immediately drew me in with its grid-based strategy gameplay, not dissimilar to Final Fantasy Tactics or the Shining Force series, both of which I have played for countless hours. I was a bit hesitant to see how this sort of tactical approach would work in an MMO setting, and there are definitely a few sacrifices made when making the genre jump.

I've been playing Wakfu in its open beta state on and off for the past month or so and I can say that I've been enjoying myself. The most recent patch addressed quite a few of my concerns with the early game, so if this article had been written a week ago, it would certainly have had a different, more negative, connotation. I haven't been able to experience the late-game content (the max level is 200!!), but I have been keeping up with the forums, most of which have late-game complaints.

Anime Expo: Wakfu inspired by Final Fantasy

Square-Enix may have a little more to do with the world of Wakfu than just publishing the French-developed MMORPG that is set for open beta later this fall. During the Anime Expo panel “An Introduction to the World of W...
