Valheim is headed to Xbox One and Series X/S in spring 2023

With cross-play support across PC and console

Announced during the extended Xbox Games Showcase this morning, Iron Gate and Coffee Stain are bringing Valheim to Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S in spring 2023 with Game Pass support, and considering how successful this Viking survival game has been on the PC Early Access side of things, that’s a fantastic get. Speaking of, development will continue on the PC version as “external teams” handle the Xbox console ports.

In addition to the Xbox port (the first half of 2023 is going to be hella busy for gaming, isn’t it?), the companies also announced that Valheim will join the PC Game Pass library in fall 2022. The best part: all three versions of Valheim — Steam, Microsoft Store, and Xbox — will have cross-play support for co-op survival. You don’t have to make new friends.

“The porting is being done by external teams, so the core team at Iron Gate is still focusing on the Mistlands,” the studio tweeted. The new biome update will be more exploration-focused.

“None of this would be possible without the incredible teams at Piktiv and Fishlabs who are continuing to work tirelessly on the Microsoft Store and Xbox ports, enabling us to focus on the Mistlands update and our exciting journey through Early Access.”

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Valheim show up on PS4 and PS5 eventually — I’m expecting a sort of Deep Rock Galactic situation — but nothing to report yet. When it comes to still-in-development early access games, PlayStation fans can expect to wait.

It’s been a while since we checked in, but Valheim has cleared 10 million sales on Steam.
