[UPDATE] Rumortoid: Afrika coming west according to a Sony representative

High on many PlayStation 3 owner’s list of “want to import” is Sony’s Pokemon Snap-ish title, Afrika. Despite every gamer’s desire to take pictures of African wildlife, Sony has often stated that the Japanese title would not be localized. But according to a Sony representative at a recent Sony Cameras event (via CVG), this may all change.

The representative told journalists that Afrika would be hitting Europe next year. He didn’t elaborate on the process or when the decision was made. He also didn’t comment on how sweet it is to take pictures of lions.

Afrika is certainly an intriguing title for me. I wasn’t a big fan of capturing the Zubat portrait in Pokemon Snap, but I have a feeling taking a picture of a zebra is easier than capturing imaginary bats in a cave while riding on a mine cart.

I assume the reason why Sony has declined to take the title westward entails lack of interest. Would any of you buy Afrika? If not, would you buy it if there was a gun mod?

[UPDATE: VG247 has a quote from an SCEE representative who shoots this down quite spectacurlarly. The rep said:”I can now confirm that there are currently no plans to release Afrika in Europe.”]
