[Update: The pricing is $30 for the expansion, $70 for the Guitar, $90 for the guitar and game, or $200 for the guitar, game, and drums]

Details about Rock Band 4's multiplayer are still vague, but the company offered a softball update with big adjectives and a title: Rock Band Rivals is set to bring "brand new features that have never been seen in Rock Band before". Harmonix adds that "these are really big, new modes to the game, and players of all difficulties and play styles will be able to enjoy what we’re cooking up for you. We can’t wait to share more about Rock Band Rivals in the near future."

A Destructoid Reader from 2 months ago offered this criticism about the desperate state of Rock Band 4:

I want to cheer for this game, but that's pretty spot on. At least there's some new hardware. We love us some plastic guitars, and the new Fender branded Jaguar guitar is also offered for $30. Here's the kicker: it folds like Ben. Yes, it's a friggin' folding guitar.

Look at it:

It folds:

Fucking science:

Hinges in 2016, we have the technology!

It's way less ugly under dramatic lighting though

How durable this is after an evening of Coors Light with your neighbors and trying not to crush your pets during your Strokes solo is yet to be seen.  The concept is novel.

We haven't spent time with it yet, but the Harmonix blog promises a more comfortable strut and improved calibration for high-speed play. Brett totally called it two weeks ago.

The new downside is that it only comes in a single hideous shade of dad's middle-aged crisis Camaro blue, so any attempt to hide this in your living room will still be challenging. It's like bad Energy Drink blue.  Like Batman go home with this can of black spray paint because you're a basic bitch blue. I'm just kidding. The real official name for the color is "cheap from China because we bankrupted Madcatz." There's also a charger for it that you can buy for an additional $30 if you want to display your new hung-over folding guitar, which comes with an A/C adapter so you can charge it while you shred.

Additional wired accessories for backwards compatibility on Xbox One were also announced at the show, meaning Wired Xbox 360 instruments work with the new adapter. but not a single lighter was seen raised over the crowd. Rock Band 4 with the Rivals expansion and one guitar will be available in dough-saving bundles for $90, or $200 if you also want new drums. Seems mostly reasonable to me, but I normally only pay full price for games that I've already bought five times when Miyamoto tells me to. Look for all this underwhelming stuff in Fall along with what we hope will be a valid reason to pick it up.

Here's a video of the new Fender Jaguar from PDP:

With some additional commentary from Rock Gamer about its Fender replica origins:
