Annapurna Interactive, along with developer Nomada, has announced a release date for the PlayStation and Nintendo Switch ports of its chrono-chaotic murder mystery Twelve Minutes, following on from its recent release on Xbox and PC. The strange and very divisive “interactive thriller” will be available to purchase on the former platforms from December 7.

Twelve Minutes is the tale of a man seemingly caught in a time loop, forced to relive the horrendous murder of himself and his wife by a home-invading “police detective” over and over again. As the story unfolds, the player is forced to use experimentation and adaptation to prevent the horrible event from taking place, ultimately reshaping destiny itself and breaking the loop. As is to be expected, however, there is far, far more to this strange turn of events than meets the eye.

In development for the longest time, and boasting voice acting talent from Daisy Ridley, James McAvoy, and Willem Dafoe, Twelve Minutes hugely divided critics and players on release, landing itself on numerous Best of Year nomination lists despite being criticized by some for its repetitive nature, narrative turns, and unfulfilled concept realization. The game is clearly inspired by multiple stellar movies — with its press release namechecking The Shining, Rear Window, and Memento in a single sentence — but it seems the final product did not meet its lofty aspirations for some players and critics, while simultaneously receiving heavy plaudits and acclaim from others.

You can find out for yourself, should you desire, when Twelve Minutes launches on PlayStation and Nintendo Switch December 7. It is already available for purchase right now on PC and Xbox platforms.
