Tokyo Game Show: New PlayStation 4 colors on display

0

Yum! PS4 is the new iMac

Here's a close-up look at the PlayStation 4 new faceplate colors (homie), shown alongside the four new Vita colors and Sony's Morpheus PlayStation VR wares. The faceplates are very nice-looking, with a build quality that resembles limited-edition color variants of game bundle marketing campaigns passed. You can pre-order most of them for about 21 bucks from Sony directly.

Seems weird to me that a first party would sell these. They're very tasteful, but I don't get the strategic decision to pastel-vomit all over the brand. Call me old-fashioned, but I like the idea of a system sticking to a first-party signature look and letting the after-market vultures peddle their unofficial funky colors for the modders. The whole faceplate thing on the Xbox 360 eventually phased itself out, so I have to wonder how long these will stick around.

If you're not a fellow curmudgeonly old man are you thinking of picking one up?

Also here is Playstation VR, which ditched the Project Morpheus monicker this week.
