TimeSplitters 4 is in development!? Pinch me, I must be dreaming

Yes, another first-person shooter is in development. No, it isn’t another World War II simulator and it will most likely not suck. If you’ve played any of the games in the TimeSplitters series before, you’re probably jumping up and down with pure excitement after reading that headline.

This piece of information comes from the August issue of OPM UK and was posted on the official PlayStation forums:

OPM: UK August Issue has a small article confirming that a new TimeSplitters game is in the works for the PS3 (most probably with X360, although it wasn’t mentioned – but it’s a PS3 magazine so why would they mention it)

No actual news on the features, other than Steve Ellis says “they’re ‘gearing’ up to insert monkeys and guns into all the wrong places”

Interestingly the logo currently being used by Free Radical, is a spoof of the Gears of War logo with a monkey head. And Free Radical is said to have sent out some concept art of a monkey in a ‘very’ familiar suit of green battle armour.

To this day, I consider TimeSplitters 2 to be one of, if not the best, multiplayer game ever created. It sounds like the next installment will feature all of the things that made TS2 such a fun experience to be had – truly crazy characters, a good sense of humor, and of course, monkeys.

Oh, and if you’re starting to contemplate how you can come up with $600 to buy a PlayStation 3 in anticipation for TimeSplitters 4, don’t sweat it too much. Both TimeSplitters 2 & 3 were available on PlayStation 2, Gamecube, and Xbox. And if EA decides to play the role of publisher again, there’s a good chance that we’ll see a multiplatform release.
