Even with as popular as videogames are today, broadcasts on gaming are pretty hard to come by. Sure, we have the G4’s shows, and there’s always GameTrailers TV. But there’s not much beyond that.
There’s one more new option for those… standing in New York’s Times Square. GCHD is a videogame show that airs on the big-assed 40′ x 30′ screen at the corner of 47th and Broadway. Oh, and it’s in high-definition.
A press release says that their content includes videogame trailers, game footage and world exclusive content including: world premier trailers, in-depth interviews with industry leaders, first-looks and world premier debuts in Times Square. The currently airing episode covers The Bourne Conspiracy videogame, and the last one covered Rainbow Six Vegas 2 and Prototype.
“It’s time to change the conversation about gamers. The average gamer in the U.S. is 33 years old. We feel it is time to treat him/her as an adult and acknowledge they have style. We’re doing everything in our power to make this form of entertainment credible, respectable and accepted. Times Square plays host to over 560,000 visitors a day, that’s a great audience for our message. Gaming is not a sub-culture anymore. You can still play Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six ® Vegas 2 and pay your mortgage.” Ronnie Hobbs, Producer – GCHD
I think it’s pretty cool that visitors to Times Square can look up and watch a show about videogames. I think it would be even better if they could play a match of Brawl or something similar on it.
