The XCOM: Long War mod team is making its own game

End of a long road

I always love it when the creators of a great mod strike out and make their own thing. That's exactly what the minds behind the excellent XCOM mod, Long War, are doing. The team, now branded under the cheeky name of Long War Studios, has started development on a title called Terra Invicta which is (you guessed it) a strategy game about defending earth from an alien invasion. No shame in sticking to what you know.

Don't be quick to write it off as a XCOM clone, though. Given the description of the game on Long War Studios' site, and what the team was heading towards with the Long War mod, there seems to be a greater emphasis on overall strategy and theater-level planning, rather than XCOM's focus on the down and dirty tactical action of popping Sectoid heads.

Development is at a “pre-Kickstarter” level now, so don't expect anything soon (except for a Kickstarter I guess), but I know that I'll be keeping tabs on this one as it develops.
