Epic’s Mark Rein has said that the Wii isn’t his company’s medium, and asking the studio to develop games for Nintendo’s little white waggle box is akin to asking a sculptor to paint.
“No, we don’t have any plans to make something for the Wii. That’s like asking a sculptor when he’s going to start painting. That’s just not our medium,” stated Rein, reiterating what I just said above (which he didn’t have to do for me, but thanks). “That’s not our area of expertise. Our area of expertise is the more high-end consoles and things that push technology higher. That’s what we do.
“There’s a lot more water in that well for us; when that runs dry then maybe we’d have to think of doing something else, but I don’t think that well is going to run dry any time soon.”
Fair enough. The Wii has moved beyond games consoles to the point where I think it almost inhabits its own space, and I can see why some developers just don’t have an interest in it. Fans looking forward to Gears of Waggle will have a long wait though, unfortunately.
