The Week in Rock (Band DLC): Black Sabbath puts you down, shuts you out

Before Ozzy Osbourne rambled incoherently about his neighbors on cable television; before he took a leak on the Alamo; and before he accidentally bit the head off of a bat, there was Black Sabbath. Formed in the late 60s, Black Sabbath (with the original line-up of Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward) are often credited with being the forefathers of the heavy metal genre.
So show some respect, and spend 440 MS Points ($5.50) on today’s Rock Band offering, “Black Sabbath Pack 01.” Included in the pack (and available individually for 160 MS Points a piece) are:
  • “Sweet Leaf”
  • “N.I.B.”
  • “War Pigs”
Guitar Hero II players will recognize “War Pigs,” the seven minute epic which originally appeared on Sabbath’s 1970 album, Paranoid. For non-Sabbath fans, I’d recommend snagging that one, if only for the sake of familiarity. But really, if you’re a human being with a soul, you can’t go wrong with any of these selections.
All of the songs are cover versions, as I’m sure the masters of every Sabbath recording prior to 1980 have long since been lost in a fire or have had whiskey spilled on them. [Note: These songs are available today for the Xbox 360, and will be available for the PlayStation 3 this Thursday.]
