Tear-jerking adventure To the Moon releasing for Switch in January 2020

You may want to play this in docked mode

The heart-rending adventure To the Moon is going to tap into a whole new audience when it arrives on Nintendo Switch. X.D. Network and Freebird have landed on a January 16, 2020 launch for this latest version, which follows prior releases across PC, iOS, and Android and promises "redrawn" graphics.

To the Moon looks unassuming, I know, but there's a reason so many people cherish it after taking that first step. If you're unfamiliar with the game, this premise will put you in the right frame of mind:

Dr. Rosalene and Dr. Watts have peculiar jobs: They give people another chance to live, all the way from the very beginning... but only in their patients' heads.

Due to the severity of the operation, the new life becomes the last thing the patients remember before drawing their last breath. Thus, the operation is only done to people on their deathbeds, to fulfill what they wish they had done with their lives, but didn't.

This particular story follows their attempt to fulfill the dream of an elderly man, Johnny. With each step back in time, a new fragment of Johnny's past is revealed. As the two doctors piece together the puzzled events that spanned a life time, they seek to find out just why the frail old man chose his dying wish to be what it is.

As someone who can never seem to resist watching Terms of Endearment, Steel Magnolias, and other sorrowful yet deeply cathartic movies of that ilk whenever they're on TV, I am all about To the Moon.

Good lord, that soundtrack.
