Succeeds the late Satoru Iwata

Tatsumi Kimishima has been named the new president of Nintendo, the company just announced.

Kimishima will succeed the late Satoru Iwata, becoming the fifth president in the company's long history. Since Iwata's passing in July, Shigeru Miyamoto and Genyo Takeda, one of the Wii's lead designers and the co-creator of Punch Out!!, have jointly overseen the company on an interim basis.

From 2002 until 2006, Kimishima guided Nintendo of America as president. Prior to then, he briefly served as Chief Financial Officer of The Pokémon Company and head of Pokémon USA, Inc.

More recently, Kimishima filled a number of administrative roles at the company, managing the Corporate Analysis & Administration, General Affairs, and Human Resources divisions.

Before getting involved with The Pokémon Company and Nintendo, Kimishima enjoyed lengthy career in the Japanese finance industry, working at Sanwa Bank for 27 years.

Kimishima will officially take on his new roles on Wednesday, September 16, 2015.
