[Disclosure: Jim Sterling is a former reviews editor at Destructoid.] Almost a year ago, we found out that Jim Sterling was being sued by indie developer James Romine on behalf of his studio Digital Homicide for damages in excess of $10.7 m...

Indie developer Digital Homicide sues Jim Sterling

[Disclosure: Jim Sterling is a former reviews editor at Destructoid] On March 4, 2016, James Romine (one-half of Digital Homicide, along with his brother Robert) filed a civil suit against our old friend Jim Sterling, seeking $10,761,000 in...

Jim Sterling doing voice work for Compulsion's We Happy Few

ScrewAttack Gaming Convention is going on right now, and some news relevant to longtime Destructoid readers has come out of it. Our old pal Jim Sterling put on Jimquisition Live there, and he made a few announcements during the panel. For t...

Jimquisition: Toxic

There has been much talk about how the gaming world is too toxic, too negative, too full of anger and rage. Jimquisition argues there might be just the right amount of it. The issue is in how it's used.  Anger is a powerful weapon, bu...

Jimquisition: Reasons To Pass On Season Passes

You were promised an episode on season passes, in the wake of Jimquisition complaining about downloadable content. There is a season for all things, and that season has come to pass. Here is a nice little bit of shouting on why s...

Jimquisition: Vertigo

Let's look for a playable woman protagonist in a videogame that doesn't rely on the same pool of restrictive stereotypes as every other playable woman protagonist. To do this, let's look at a fighting game from 1994. That one about the din...

Jimquisition: To Play The Villain

Some gamers are skipping Grand Theft Auto V, unwilling to play the role of a thief, a gangbanger, or a psychopath. While others may shy away from being the villain, Jim Sterling actively revels in it. Indeed, to play the villain can not on...

Jimquisition: Lugoscababib Discobiscuits

This week, Jim loads his gun and shoots holes in the argument that certain games suffer from ludonarrative dissonance, just because they're violent. Because really, people, that's not even what ludonarrative dissonance is! If you're gonna...

Jimquisition: Creative Freedom, Strings Attached

Freedom of expression is not freedom to express without challenge. A game is within its rights to include any content it does, but that content is not sacred. Puppeteer features a boy as the hero, not a girl. Gavin Moore was asked why thi...

Beer and Sterling talk indies, money, previews

During this past weekend, I had the pleasure of sharing some screen time with Marcus Beer, known to GameTrailers viewers as the Annoyed Gamer. In this crossover video, we discuss preview events (and why I don't do them), independent develo...

Jimquisition: Downloadable Discontent

You don't have to hate downloadable content to avoid ever buying the stuff. Even heartfelt fans of the concept can be thoroughly turned off, and it's all thanks to the idiots trying to sell it. Your old pal Jim loves DLC, as an idea, but n...

Jimquisition: Time To Get Paid

Payday 2 is a success, because the people making and publishing it weren't completely stupid. What sorcery is this? Yes, it's one of those episodes where we celebrate one game getting it right and not stuffing everything up. Speaking of st...

Jimquisition: I'm Going To Murder Your Children

If your first response to a game creator doing something you dislike is to get personal with them and threaten their families, you waive any righteousness you might have had. Seems like a no-brainer ... yet so few of us seem to have brains...

Jimquisition: Neutered

Why do gamers defend their favorite titles from criticism with such volatility? According to some, it's because they don't want to see their genitalia removed. Is inclusivity the enemy of creativity? Is restriction an inherent part of cong...

Jimquisition: Dragon's Frown

Oh yes, it's another video about reviews and things. Not quite the usual flavor, but certainly something that cannot be repeated enough. If you're a fan of Vanillaware, you may not be helping by pouring excessive scorn on a reviewer who ma...

Jimquisition: Fee to Pay

It's time to talk about why "optional" microtransactions in games aren't really optional, and why they're especially gruesome in games we already paid for at retail. The rise of "free to play" elements in games that are not free is going t...

Jimquisition: Sequel or Slaughter

Must every new videogame become a sequel-spawning franchise? Is it through necessity, or simple avarice that mainstream game development makes it so? A little dash of jarnalizm, a spoonful of introspection, and two massive barrels of ...

Jimquisition: Fun & Priorities

Grand Theft Auto V is designed to be fun, says Rockstar. Sounds like a no-brainer, but that little bit of PR buzztalk says a lot more than you may think. When you examine fun as a motivator versus the more common justifications given ...

Jimquisition: Gamer Guys

Jimquisition travels to another time and another place, examining a world taken over by gamer guys and their testosterone-addled inanity. Something must be done! Fortunately, your ol' pal Jim Sterling is here to take those insincere c...

Jimquisition: Launch Splooge

As we head toward the launch of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, we're going to soon be hearing about their launch libraries, and how awesome they are. Ignore these boasts. Let Jimquisition bring light into your life, explaining h...

Jimquisition: Why PC Gaming Gets Away With It

The Xbox One no longer enforces restrictions on used games, but the debate over console DRM is not over. One lingering question is this -- why are consoles criticized, but PC gets away with it? One would assume the plentiful answers are ob...

Jimquisition: PS4 - Doing Nothing, Meaning Everything

Sony created a magic moment this past week at E3, declaring for the world that PS4 would not restrict used games or utilize DRM. Power to the people! Of course, it can be said Sony didn't actually do anything, yet is being lauded as a hero...

Jimquisition: Xbox One and the Death of Ownership

Well, Microsoft went and did it. It took the step publishers have fantasized over for years, and destroyed the concept of videogame ownership. The Xbox One will sell you games, but it keeps what it sells, while controlling and overseeing y...

I finally got around to watching Gotham by Its good, especially the animation, but the voice actor playing Bruce needed to emote Hes as stoic and monotone as modern Lara And that really drags the movie
