There is the slightest glimmer of hope for Mass Effect

And not just because of an Xbox One X patch

Today, again already, is N7 Day. November 7 served as a once-important date for Mass Effect fans. It was a day to celebrate Mass Effect and to look toward the future with bright eyes and lots of hope.

But, if every previous N7 Day was a celebration, last year's was a funeral. It was The Saddest N7 Day. EA and BioWare had kind of just given up on Mass Effect: Andromeda. Everything went so sideways that EA declared it was putting Mass Effect on ice for the foreseeable future.

That's exactly what happened. BioWare gave its full attention to the upcoming Anthem, and Mass Effect kind of slowly disappeared. There have been no updates about the best space opera in video games, just like everyone promised. For all intents and purposes, Mass Effect was dead.

November 7, 2018 might be the most unremarkable N7 Day in the pseudo-holiday's 11-year run. Mass Effect: Andromeda received an Xbox One X patch to support 4K resolution and HDR lighting. That's it. It's somehow both underwhelming and more than we should've expected.

Although, there's one final bit in the above-embedded video that any true Mass Effect fan will hang their hat on. BioWare general manager Casey Hudson caps off the personable N7 Day short by saying "It means coming into the studio every day dreaming about what the next great Mass Effect game will be." It's not much, but it's something. Suddenly, there's reason to have hope again.
