Sega Ages release of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will include Knuckles

Fist of Fun

A small tidbit of news from this week's issue of Famitsu has revealed that edgy echidna Knuckles will be making an appearance in Sega Ages' upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 2 re-release, headed to Nintendo Switch at some point in the future.

Knuckles' appearance will be made possible by the inclusion of "Knuckles the Echidna in Sonic the Hedgehog 2," a special mode that could be accessed on the Sega Mega Drive back in '94 by plugging a Sonic 2 cartridge into Sonic & Knuckles. This allowed players to run through Sonic 2 as the red menace, complete with his unique abilities.

This isn't the only tweak coming to the Switch release of Sonic 2, as the "Drop Dash" ability from the great Sonic Mania will also be implemented, as will a "Super Sonic Mode," which gives players possession of all of the Chaos Emeralds right from the off. Not too shabby.

Despite this reveal, there is currently no release date for Sega Ages' Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
