New Zelda: Breath of the Wild patch lets you earn items by using Switch news channels

Nintendo would be crazy to not keep this Zelda: Breath of the Wild train rolling. It's still one of the most popular games of the year, and sales will only continue to grow as more people are picking up Switch consoles and flock to it -- a second major story DLC on the way also ensures that existing owners are still invested as well.

So what's the next stop? News channels. Yep, you heard that right -- those little news channels that are housed within the Switch's UI? You can start earning items with them tomorrow. Nintendo hasn't explained what items that promotion entails, but they do note that starting tomorrow (or at least, the channels are "expected" to roll out tomorrow) you can launch the game from channels like "Tips from the Wild" to earn items.

Beyond that there were a few bug fixes. You can read the full patch notes below!

Zelda [Nintendo]

Version 1.3.1

  • We have fixed the issue in Pack 1: The Master Trials of the Expansion Pass, in which defeating certain enemies for Kilton was not counted toward completion when playing in Master Mode.
  • In-game items can now be obtained from launching the software from certain articles distributed through a new News channel ("The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Tips from the Wild") which can be accessed through News on the Home menu.
    • This channel is expected to open on 8/9/2017.
    • Depending on your game progress and location, certain items may not be obtainable.
  • Various fixes to improve gameplay.
