Dang! Watch an Alien-inspired, professional Metroid short film

This is actually quite lovely!

Nintendo doesn't much care to do anything with Metroid save for soccer games, so here's a professional grade Metroid production, The Sky Calls. I was a bit dismissive of this for about as long as it took to see those excellent title cards and appreciate the post-processing put into capturing the 70's sci-fi vibe that I love.

The description notes, "2001, Alien, and Solaris" as influences and it shows, eschewing modern, sterile sci-fi for a style, "more in tune with the themes that inspired the first Metroid game in 1986: isolation, exploration, and the wonders of deep space."

Jessica Chobot -- more like Ridleyssica Chozo, am I right! -- stars as the titular Metroid, Sam Balcomb directs. Really impressive effort.
