[I love personal end of years gaming lists. Each one is a look into the types of games that bring joy to the author. It's also a great way to see if there are any games that I missed over that period. While it's easy enough just to hammer out a list in written form, it takes an extraordinary amount of dedication and ingenuity to turn your personal game of the year list into a visual novel, and that's just what community member TheBlondeBass has done. So go brew a nice cup of coffee, and settle in for a little light reading as Bass takes you through his favorite games of 2018 and 2019. -Anthony]

Just when I thought I was out...

The Bass Awards are back baby! And this time around, not only are we covering two years of video games instead of one, but the awards themselves are entirely interactive! That's right, you're getting a series of video game reviews...as a video game! Though maybe that's stretching the definition a little.

Are these worth the two years since the last edition? That's honestly up for you to decide! That being said, I've definitely put a lot of effort into making these special. They're longer, with about a two-hour runtime from start to finish. And, more importantly, they're honest. I wanted to make this story genuine above all else.

A fair warning to ye who enter: There are a few intentionally stressful scenes in this year's awards. If you're not feeling like you're in the right mindset for that, feel free to leave them in the backlog. They won't disappear.

In any case, the categories this time are as follows:

  • Nostalgia
  • Music
  • Multiplayer
  • Writing
  • Visuals
  • Best original experience
  • Best timesink
  • Worst annoyances
  • Most-Enjoyable-Despite-Shoddy-Monetization
  • Game of both years

And here is the download! The download link below comes with Windows and Linux builds.

These awards were completely unlike any other project I've ever worked on. They took weeks of writing and rewriting, and the gist of them have been taking space in my brain for the past two years. It's both stressful and liberating to finally be able to share them in the open.

To all of you who give this year's awards a go, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
