Blizzard denies pulling Diablo 4 announcement from BlizzCon 2018

'working on multiple unannounced Diablo projects'

Blizzard Entertainment has denied reports that they intended to announce Diablo 4 this weekend, before then deciding to pull the announcement.

The new statement was made in response to news outlet Kotaku reporting that the fourth entry in the dungeon crawling series was originally scheduled to make its presence known at BlizzCon 2018, which took place in Anaheim over the past weekend. The news came in the wake of a controversy that saw some fans angered at the reveal of Diablo Immortal, a mobile title currently in development for release in 2019.

"First off we want to mention that we definitely hear our community," begins the rebuttal received by Kotaku. "We generally don’t comment on rumors or speculation, but we can say that we didn’t pull any announcements from BlizzCon this year or have plans for other announcements. We do continue to have different teams working on multiple unannounced Diablo projects, and we look forward to announcing when the time is right."

While a continuation of the mainline Diablo series is an inevitability, it seems that Blizzard aren't ready to reveal their hand just yet. Diablo Immortal is currently in development for mobile platforms. Diablo III is available now on PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
