Greetings fellow game music lovers,
todays topic is the game "Super Ghouls And Ghosts", the third main entry in the Ghosts N Goblins saga after Ghouls N Ghosts released by Capcom in 1991 for the SNES. I make a first attempt to explain the potential musical influences of the song, which you get after beating the game a second time and defeating the evil Sardius:
From a stylistic point, the genre that reminds me of this the closest are the opulent, heroic big-band soundtracks from the outgoing Golden Age Of Hollywood in the fifties and sixties where one fanfare follows the next:
The closest direct match I have so far is an excerpt from the song "Away To Play" by the Belgian psychedelic pop band "The Klan" (1966):
I'm still trying to improve on this.
In a subversion, there is also a a tune reminiscent of the GnG song in a shooter game "Great Mahou Daisakusen" which was released in 2000 in Japan. It has been developed by Raizing and published - coincidentally - by Capcom. The stage 1 theme has passages that remind of the GnG tune a lot:
BTW Someone made a Philly sound orchestral remix for the GnG ending available on youtube which I recommend to watch:
The heat drives me insane. Phil out. Of sweat.
