Star Trek: Bridge Crew pushed to 2017

Keep translating and nobody explodes

This one stings. Ubisoft is holding back Star Trek: Bridge Crew, Red Storm Entertainment's VR-exclusive space sim, until March 14, 2017. Previously, it was scheduled for a late November release for HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and PlayStation VR. I know folks who just picked up the latter device that were looking forward to it as a launch-window game, so I'm sorry I have to dash those dreams.

Bridge Crew doesn't show especially well in videos even by VR standards, but I have it on good authority that it can be a total riot -- figuratively and maybe even literally -- with the right group of people.

"In Star Trek: Bridge Crew, the Federation dispatches you and your crew to command the new vessel U.S.S. Aegis as part of a critical initiative. Your mission: explore a largely uncharted sector of space known as The Trench, in hopes of locating a suitable new home world for the decimated Vulcan populace. The Trench contains stunning beauty and undiscovered wonders, but also strange anomalies and dangers yet unknown. The Klingon Empire is also active in the region, and their purpose is undoubtedly a threat to the Federation's plans. It's up to you and your crew to chart the sector to determine the Klingons' aims, and to secure a peaceful Federation presence."

That's how it's supposed to be played, but who's to say we can't have saboteurs on deck? The "hand tracking with full-body avatars and real-time lip sync" will do wonders for this social experience.
