Get to know the people who make great videogames

[Sup Holmes is a weekly talk show for people that make great videogames. It airs live every Sunday at 4pm EST on Youtube, and can be found in Podcast form on Libsyn and iTunes.]

Last week on Sup Holmes, we caught up with Auston Montville of Too DX, creators of arena fantasy "Super Polo" title Sportsball and free boss fight elevator Bosses Forever. It was exciting to talk to a developer who is so filled with excitement about the creative process and what videogames can do. We talked about what it's like to work with Nintendo, the science of guiding players towards discovering how much depth a game holds without ever forcing their hand, birds with giant talons, games as social lubricant, and how taking a productive approach to criticism is key to effective game development.

The single player modes Auston has planned for an upcoming Sportsball upgrade sound fantastic. The lack of single player options are pretty much the only complaint I have about the game, as it allows for seemingly endless depth in multi-player modes. There are so many naturally emergent advanced techniques to stumble upon and master, it's just a shame that you'll need to play with a group to stumble upon most of them. We'll be sure to let you know when the update goes live, but if you've got friends over for Smash and you want to try some 2-on-2 bird-battle hoops, you could do a heck of a lot worse than Sportsball
