Sony has filed a trademark for something called Qriocity, which has earned the distinction of sounding even stupider than Qore. Naturally, this has set the Internet into a blaze of speculation as we all try and work out what it could mean. The current front-runner is the suggestion that it’s Sony’s PSN premium service, which is a solid guess.
The trademark has been filed in association with “portable gaming machines” and “game services provided online from a computer network.” At this stage, it could be anything, and since it was filed by Sony and not specifically Sony Computer Entertainment, it may be linked with a whole range of products. The similarity to the “Qore” name certainly makes it sound like a PlayStation thing, though.
Whatever it is, we may hear more about it soon. Sony has also registered Qriocity.com only a few months before filing the trademark papers. Sounds like it’s a name they’re very keen on using, whatever they end up using it for.
What do you think of the name (pronounced a bit like “Curiosity”) and what do you reckon it could mean?
