Sony has confirmed that, while the PS3 is still playing a long game, it’s hard at work on whatever comes next.
“For the home equipment the PS3 still has a product life,” said CFO Masaru Kato during a financial call, “but this is a platform business, so for the future platform — when we’ll be introducing what product I cannot discuss that — but our development work is already under way, so the costs are incurred there.”
Talk of new consoles, in a generation where developers can barely afford the current budget demands, is scary to me. Still, the next generation is going to happen eventually. I just hope the industry can take it.
