Should you keep the Artifacts on your ship or at an Outpost in Starfield?

A new home.

The central story of Starfield contains, like all good space stories, a McGuffin. These are the mysterious Artifacts that we track down and which give us our interesting powers. Eventually, you need to make a choice between your ship and an outpost as a place to keep them, but what should you do?

Should you build the Armillary on your ship or at an Outpost in Starfield?

The best place to keep your Artifacts and build your Armillary is on your ship. Ultimately, the reason for this is that you need the Artifacts with you for the final battle in Starfield’s story, but it’s also a little more complicated than that.

If you build the Armiallary on your ship, the Starborn will keep hunting you. This might seem like a bad thing, but each Starborn you deal with gives you some Quantum Essence, an important resource for increasing your powers. This is tremendously valuable because powers can prove to be a key part of the final mission and very helpful, depending on who you side with. You can also just jump out of the system any time a Starborn ship appears if you don’t want to fight them.

It also involves less running around in general. If you put the Armillary at an Outpost, you will need to visit that Outpost with every new Artifact you find. It just makes life far more convenient if you put it on your ship. You will also need to build some defenses at the Outpost, and it’s just not really worth the effort.

It should be noted that if you really want to farm Starborn, you can just keep the Artifacts in your inventory. That way, they will come after you on your ship and when you are on foot exploring planets and completing missions.
