Hope you’re ready for some psychotronic, intergalactic action. This week sees the launch of a brand new franchise, with the arrival of Bandai Namco’s hyper-kinetic action-RPG Scarlet Nexus, which hits PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms on June 25.

Scarlet Nexus will tell the tale of a near-future, where humans have started to unlock the psychic powers of the mind and weaponize for both noble and nefarious use. This sudden surge of psychic power has attracted a terrifying race of shape-shifting aliens — The Other — who have come to Earth to literally feast upon human brains, creating a devastating apocalypse that has left the planet a wasteland. As The OSF (Other Suppression Force), it is up to the player to pilot a squad of skilled psychic warriors (or “Psionics”) against the alien menace in a final battle to salvage what remains of the ravaged Earth.

Written by the team behind acclaimed JRPG Tales of Vesperia, Scarlet Nexus hopes to introduce a hi-tech, action-packed universe filled with relatable heroes, skin-crawly villains, and an apocalyptic atmosphere, punctuated with intense, vibrant, and mind-blowing sci-fi action. Bandai Namco has big hopes for the new IP, already commissioning legendary animation studio Sunrise to produce an anime adaptation. While Scarlet Nexus is flying in “under the radar” so to speak, we may come to find that the new release has more than a touch of Platinum’s Astral Chain about it, taking the market by surprise and becoming one of the year’s sleeper hits. The truth will out, come review day.

Scarlet Nexus will launch on PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X June 25. The anime will premiere in Japan July 1.
