Save yourself some time: avoid this Risen glitch

Recommended Videos

One of many indicators of a solid port is if the studio took the time to squash bugs from the original version of the game. In the case of Risen it appears as if Piranha Bytes missed at least one — and it’s a big nasty, terrible one.

In the third chapter in the game, your no-longer-shoeless adventurer will have to face the dangers of the Volcano Keep in order to do the whole “save the world” thing. In the process, though, you may hit a glitch so bad that you’ll have to restart the game. Take our advice: when prompted by the voodoo man, it’s best to go right instead of left first. Going left first means two quest items (busts) won’t spawn and thus you can’t complete the next two chapters.

It’s a bummer, and a known bummer to boot. You’ll see threads from 2009 full of folks who have stumbled upon this evil. Add me to that list which is sure to grow given Risen‘s new platform.

Here’s another piece of advice: save often and save in 15 different slots. You never known when Risen is going to break. And break it often does.
