Sample the music from Silent Hill: Downpour

Former Silent Hill main man Akira Yamaoka won’t be on board for the upcoming Silent Hill: Downpour, seeing as how he peaced out from Konami back in 2009.

So who’s picking up the musical responsibilities for the title, the eighth game in the series? None other than Daniel Licht, composer best known for his work on the hit Showtime series, Dexter. How’s he doing? Have a listen in the video above, which I threw together and set it to some screenshots and concept artwork for Downpour.

I know a lot of folks are going to be resistant to the change — Yamaoka’s score and vibe was an essential part of the Silent Hill universe. But I see where Licht is going with this particular piece; it’s got the same kind of eerie atmosphere I’ve come to expect from the series.

We’ll have to wait to see how it comes together, though, when Silent Hill: Downpour hits PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this fall. Until then, everyone is free to bitch about how Konami is ruining the series or something, right?
