With a name like "Battle Royale," you would think that this was some kind of cutthroat competition in which contestants each receive a bag filled with food, water, and a murder weapon and must wear collars that explode should they get caught in a danger zone. Ya know, kinda like a movie based on a book that predates a certain other movie based on a book.
But no, this is a friendly assembly of like-minded Pokémaniacs who have each selected one of the original 151 Pokémon to doodle for a gallery at the Light Grey Art Lab in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The show, which opens on April 20, will showcase works from artists such as Maré Odomo (Letters to an Absent Father) and Zac Gorman (Magical Game Time).
A full list of participants and their chosen Pokémon is here. Some sample works are in the gallery below; all of the final pieces can be purchased at the show for $40.
